Thank you for this insight- full article..very fascinating and actually rather liberating .
It is something much needed ..for myself, to understand and to help me to navigate through the political chaos .and increasing divisiveness. I was getting caught in binary thinking.. Praying for Peace and Justice as very powerful men vie for our nation.. (while we are locked out and silenced)
A very useful tool to help us navigate these turbulent waters. Within the divided church today, how can we unite, as Jesus calls us to do, if we don’t understand each other’s filters?. As Christians our focus must be on Jesus, and our actions rooted in and growing from the undeserved love He gave us while we were still sinners! Certainly not because we are ever righteous on our own.
But our limited human perspectives keep dividing us as we turn our attention onto each other with suspicion. It’s so easy to label each other because words and labels help us organize our thoughts. But those labels become fixed, then too often derogatory and judgmental as our emotions are kindled. The enemy of God wins those battles, though never the war.
We must always always, always be aware of our own temptations in using such a tool. I assume I’m not the only one who, looking for the “best” level, finds myself situated there puffing up in pride and self-satisfaction that I’m “not like these others”.
Nice summary. I think Spiral Dynamics can be a powerful tool for helping us understand one another in the midst of competing cultures.
